As of 9/12/11, KC Dog Runners will no longer officially be organizing the shelter dog runs. However, we would encourage you to develop a relationship with a dog shelter near your house and volunteer to run their dogs for them every once in a while. I promise, they will be forever grateful! If you have any questions about running with shelter dogs, send me an email through the contact page on our website. Thanks to all who have volunteered over the past 2 1/2 years. Jeff

We have been asked a few times if we can provide yard clean-up service. Apparently some of the pet waste removal services are not as reliable as they should be. So, for $13.50/week, we offer a once a week yard clean-up service. You may sign up for this service whether or not you are a regular KC Dog Runners client or not. You will receive a short text each week letting you know your yard has been cleaned up.

Mention that you follow us on Facebook or Twitter and your first week will be free.

One of the toughest times to run dogs is after a snow storm, when the roads are plowed, salted, and the sun is out but temperatures are still cold. The road conditions are wet and slushy. You wouldn’t think that’s so bad, but your dog will likely tell you otherwise. Salt lowers the freezing point of water – think ice cream machine, so when that slush is saturated with salt, it will easily get between your dogs paws and it is REALLY, REALLY cold. So be kind to your four legged friend on the salty, wet, slushy winter roads.

If you have small children and a puppy in your home we recommend that the children, along with adult supervision, hand feed your puppy his meals for sitting. The benefits are twofold: 1)your puppy will begin sitting calmly for attention from children and 2)your puppy will associate your children with pleasant experiences rather than negative ones (e.g., being grabbed or stepped on). If you find that your puppy is biting your childʼs fingers the child can simply drop kibble on the floor once your puppy has sat.

We had a record turn out this past Saturday at The Pet Connection in Mission, KS. 25 people showed up to take a shelter dog out for a run. What makes this run unique is the fact that it was dry when everyone arrived, but by the time it was time to start running, it started to sprinkle, then within a few minutes, a torrential downpour. Thanks to everyone who came out, and ran in the rain. I know the dogs appreciated your efforts!!

Welcome to our new website. Here are a few new features.

We will be posting the dates of our volunteer shelter dog runs as well as a few of the larger shelter events we are involved with through out the year in our Upcoming Events section on the right hand side of the page. Our blog will feature monthly training tips from Canine Curriculum, tips on running with your dog, and random stories from our runners.

While not drastically different from our old site, we would love to hear from you, letting us know what you think.
